Description
Latinos Progresando (LP) Domestic Violence Program empowers people who are experiencing domestic violence to free themselves from dependency on a resident or citizen abuser. They guide clients who have had certain crimes committed against them through their legal options.
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) of 1994 provides a way for people experiencing domestic violence to file for immigration benefits independently, without depending on their abusers for legal permanent residency or citizenship status.
LP offers free consultations to assess the eligibility of potential VAWA applicants, and they help eligible clients find related services, such as divorce attorneys, custody representation, public benefits, and food and shelter. In cases where no remedies are available under VAWA, LP refers clients to organizations that can help with their needs.

How to Apply
If you or someone you know might be eligible for Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) benefits, please contact our Legal Services Staff at 773-542-7077 to register to attend a free information session held the 2nd Thursday of each month from 10:00am-2:00pm. At this session attendees will receive all the information about the program and what he/she will need to qualify to receive legal benefits.
Walk-in times are Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00am-12:00pm and Saturdays, 7:30am (must arrive by that time to be seen). The office is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Individuals are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited.
